Your Life Isn’t Raining Everywhere: Recognizing the Illusion

Chapter 1: The Illusion of Rain
This week, while commuting to work, I found myself caught in the rain. It struck me how weather can influence our emotions and set a particular tone for the day. For me, rain has a significant impact.
As a child, I naively believed that if it was raining where I was, it must also be pouring everywhere else. The concept that conditions could differ from place to place was somewhat perplexing to me. Given that rain often spans vast areas, it made sense to assume that it was also raining in other regions, like China. I thought everyone must be experiencing the same weather.
At times, life feels like it's consistently raining. Even if one aspect of my life is bleak, it can feel as though the gloom extends to all areas. If my job is challenging, I might think that my home life is equally affected. Similarly, if there are troubles at home, I might expect them to spill over into my academic or professional life.
Just like the weather, when conditions are poor, it becomes difficult to envision any semblance of sunshine elsewhere. If I can’t see it or experience it, I start to believe it simply doesn’t exist. Yet, I recognize that this perception is misleading. Sometimes rain blankets a large area, making it seem inescapable; other times, it’s just a fleeting patch of clouds, with sunshine waiting just around the corner.
I’ve come to understand that maintaining a fixed mindset can be detrimental, as it feels too definitive. In a world that is perpetually evolving, nothing remains constant for long. The notion that rain covers every inch of land forever is not only illogical, but it’s also a mere illusion.
However, we often sacrifice rational thinking for a temporary mindset, convincing ourselves that our current struggles will persist indefinitely and affect every aspect of our lives. Just because it’s raining now doesn’t mean sunshine is absent elsewhere.
Lately, I’ve been focusing on preventing the rain from permeating every area of my life. If I face difficulties in one aspect, I’m grateful for the other areas that are thriving. Sometimes, the rain does extend to other facets, and I have to navigate through it. In those moments, I remind myself of a simpler truth from my childhood.
Back then, when I thought rain enveloped the entire world, I felt a pull to be outside, amidst it all. I saw it as an adventure rather than a threat. Perhaps I just need to rediscover that childlike sense of wonder.
