Why I Chose a Chromebook Over the Pixel Tablet: My Experience
Written on
Exploring the Appeal of the Google Pixel Tablet
The Google Pixel Tablet is undoubtedly one of the most innovative tablets currently available. I genuinely believe that Google has nailed the concept of using a dock, particularly for home users.
Consider this: most of the people I know rely heavily on their smartphones for nearly everything, often leaving their tablets neglected and gathering dust. However, with the new Pixel Tablet, users can manage their smart home systems seamlessly. Plus, thanks to the dock, the tablet stays charged and ready for action whenever needed. How impressive is that? I truly see this tablet as a transformative tool for home environments!
A Revolutionary Concept from Google
So Why Did I Opt for a Chromebook Instead?
After expressing my admiration for the Pixel Tablet, you might be curious about my decision to select a Chromebook instead. The quick answer is that I don't believe the tablet aligns with my specific requirements just yet.
I worry that if I purchase the Pixel Tablet, it may end up lying unused. I am a big fan of my iPad, enjoying the Apple Pencil and the Paperlike screen protector I use with it. My iPad serves as my primary device for various tasks, including taking handwritten notes—an area where I feel Google hasn't fully ventured yet, but I hope they do.
Having previously owned a Chromebook, I have been contemplating getting a new one for some time. I was eager to see how they have evolved over the years. Additionally, I frequently write blog posts on the go—whether I’m in a café, on the train, or waiting at a station. A compact laptop with a solid battery life fits my needs perfectly. Thus, combining these factors led me to choose a Chromebook, specifically the Samsung Galaxy Chromebook 2 360, which I found through my network provider at a reasonable price.
I appreciate the option to insert a SIM card into the device, allowing me to avoid the hassle of public Wi-Fi connections.
My Experience with the Chromebook So Far
Chromebooks often don't receive the recognition they deserve!
What About the Pixel Tablet?
To be completely transparent, I could always pair a Bluetooth keyboard with the Pixel Tablet, but that somewhat defeats the purpose in my view. I wanted to invest in a Chromebook, yet I still have an interest in the Pixel Tablet. However, I struggle to see how the tablet would be more beneficial to me than a Chromebook, especially for writing blog posts.
I’m unsure if I will acquire the Google Pixel Tablet anytime soon, as my iPad tends to fulfill most of my needs. Nevertheless, I envision the Pixel Tablet as a fantastic addition to any living room setup, serving as a central family device.
I am also considering upgrading my smart home technology. Currently, I have several Amazon Echo devices scattered throughout the house, but I believe it’s time for an update. I’m leaning towards Google devices, which would work beautifully with the Pixel Tablet as the main control hub for my smart home setup.
Final Thoughts
In summary, I believe I made the right choice in opting for a Chromebook, and I am genuinely impressed with the overall user experience. While I won’t fully understand what I might be missing with the Pixel Tablet until I try it for myself, I will certainly keep an eye out for it in local tech shops. Who knows? I might end up liking it so much that I purchase it on the spot!
I appreciate that Google seems to be focusing on home users with this tablet, but I hope they also consider the needs of productivity and creative professionals. A stylus and possibly a keyboard would be fantastic additions to the Pixel Tablet.
