Embracing the Power of Choice: A Path to Happiness

Written on

Chapter 1: The Essence of Choice

In every moment of life, we are faced with decisions, and it's vital to remember, “I Have A Choice.” - Deepak Chopra.

Recently, I had a conversation with a young man named Joe, who was preparing for the Bar Exam. Having just graduated from law school, I extended my congratulations, but noticed he lacked enthusiasm. I asked him, “Are you looking forward to your new career?” His response was, “Not really.” Confused, I inquired further, “Why not? Isn’t this what you aimed for?” He explained, “My parents are lawyers, so I felt like I had limited options.”

Listening to Joe made me feel a profound sadness for him and for others who believe their only option is to remain unhappy. This belief is a misconception.

As a child, I was brimming with creativity, writing short stories and dreaming of traveling. However, after progressing through school and into college, my focus shifted to pursuing a career that promised financial security, despite my passion for writing being sidelined.

After graduating, I dove into the corporate world, where I often found myself working up to 14 hours a day. My dreams of writing and exploring faded. Even when I transitioned to remote work, I still felt trapped in a career that no longer resonated with me. Eventually, I realized I had a choice — so I decided to resign.

People were quick to ask, “What will you do now? Why did you make that choice? How will you manage?” Some even lamented, “I wish I could do the same, but I don’t have a choice.”

While not everyone can quit their job impulsively, everyone has choices. You have the power to choose your career path, your mindset, and your happiness, however you define it.

Upon resigning, a wave of tranquility washed over me. At last, I felt liberated! I could write, create, and dream once more — I had returned to my inner child.
