Chapter 1: My Journey with Video Creation

I’m passionate about sharing my authentic experiences as I navigate through life. While I always believed that video would be the ideal medium, I often struggle to present myself in a way that feels genuine.

At times, the thought of potentially earning money from these videos led me to adopt a more polished persona, striving to ensure that every word I spoke was beneficial. Unfortunately, I lost sight of the true motivation behind starting my YouTube channel, allowing external opinions to overshadow my original vision—something I acknowledge as my oversight.

Writing comes naturally to me; I find it easier to express my thoughts through text. In contrast, video requires extensive preparation, and even though I am an organizer by nature, I often find it challenging to sound spontaneous rather than rehearsed—unless, of course, I am performing, which I do occasionally.

Additionally, I enjoy the creative aspect of video production, particularly incorporating exciting b-roll footage. However, I feel a sense of guilt for not completing my other editing projects, which makes it difficult to focus on producing an engaging video for myself.

You might wonder, “Why not finish those other projects first?” The truth is, I am working on them, but it’s a time-consuming process. One project is a wedding video I filmed for a friend as a gift, and since she didn’t pay for it, I want to make sure it’s beautifully crafted. This is not a justification for delivering a subpar video; I am dedicated to making it special, #myexcuse.

The other project is a promotional video for another friend’s hoodie business. I haven't captured the footage in the way I envisioned, which has caused my creativity to stall. That’s the honest truth.

In the midst of this hesitation, I was reminded of a powerful verse:

“Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ.” — Colossians 3:23–24

There’s no reason for me to be taking so long to complete these projects. Therefore, I’ve decided that finishing them is my priority for this week.

I believe my mind nudged me to write this for accountability. My goal is to complete both videos by Sunday, August 14, 2022. As I write this on Wednesday, August 10, 2022, at 1:31 PM while at work, I will pause here and hopefully return on Sunday with completed work.
