Transforming My Life Through Daily Meditation Over Three Years

Chapter 1: The Journey Begins

In my mid to late twenties, I dabbled in meditation, even undergoing training in Transcendental Meditation. However, my lack of patience led me to abandon it. When the 2019 lockdown hit, I decided to revisit meditation, committing to practice daily for thirty consecutive days.

Initially, my thoughts were chaotic and restless. It felt like my mind was a whirlwind of distractions. A spectator would have been astounded by the sheer volume of trivial thoughts racing through my head.

To regain my focus, I opted for a mantra-based approach. Typically, by the third minute of meditation, my mind would start to drift. Thoughts like, "Oh, I need to call... today," or "Did I buy toilet paper yesterday?" would invade my mind, spiraling into an endless cycle of chatter.

This scenario persisted for weeks. However, on day 23, I experienced a breakthrough. I managed to concentrate on my mantra for about four minutes, leading to my first profound realization of meditation's potential.

A moment of tranquility washed over me, and the exhilaration was unparalleled. For an instant, I escaped my thoughts and simply existed. It was a remarkable experience.

Once I recognized this feeling, it slipped away, and the whirlwind of thoughts returned. I found myself desperately searching for that blissful state again. "Be patient," I internally urged myself, which only amplified my frustration.

It required further patience and time before I encountered that serene moment again. I learned that it often arrives unexpectedly and when you’re not actively pursuing it. It’s a fleeting moment of forgetfulness, a brief glimpse into a gap of consciousness that reveals a silent observer within—pure bliss.

Over the next six months, I reaped numerous benefits from my practice. I became acutely aware of how easily I let trivial matters upset me, and I learned to avoid such reactions. I began to engage with my surroundings more effortlessly and with heightened awareness. A deeper sense of bliss, peace, and joy emerged, alongside noticeable improvements in my health.

Continuing this journey, after three years of almost daily meditation, I now feel that sense of peace within moments of beginning my practice, fully immersing myself in the experience.

This path has ignited my curiosity about consciousness and the workings of the brain. I turned to Deepak Chopra's book, Synchrodestiny, which I wholeheartedly recommend. My life has been filled with synchronistic events, and my intuition has sharpened to the point of surprising myself.

If you’re contemplating meditation, I encourage you to pursue it. However, be aware it’s not an instant remedy. Like any valuable endeavor, it requires dedication and practice. The results, however, are truly rewarding.
