Her drinking was a desperate attempt to cope with the loss of her infected clone sisters, whose lives were deemed expendable. The Captain, however, wasted no time in issuing a dire command. This narrative unfolds as a serialized retro space adventure.

The captain’s authoritative voice cut through the ship's comms system. “Mikar, I need you here immediately.”

I hastily finished my glass of wine and rinsed my mouth with mouthwash, preparing for the inevitable.

The captain was pacing restlessly on the bridge, the control panel's erratic lights casting eerie shadows on her determined face. “What do we know about the hostile alien species we’ve dubbed Grey Cut?” she demanded.

Just as I was about to respond, she continued, “Clearly, we lack sufficient information. I must take matters into my own hands. Waiting for the new crew is pointless; they’ll likely return infected. I have to do this myself.”

“I concur.” I always found myself agreeing with my captain, a habit that had cost my sisters their lives.

We stepped off the ship, clad in simple trousers and tunics—body armor seemed futile, having failed to protect the crew before.

As I savored the flavors of Rioja wine—an oak-aged delicacy—I reflected on the irony. Though I’d never seen an oak tree, I understood its contribution to the wine’s distinctive caramel, coffee, and roasted nut notes. Unfortunately, this ancient aging method was in decline. Yet, some traditional bodegas still adhered to the old ways, committed to preserving the craft despite the cost.
