Resolving Dota 2 "Back To Lobby" and Missing Game Buttons

Chapter 1: The Dota 2 Connectivity Challenge
Have you ever faced the frustrating issue in Dota 2 where the "Find Match" or "Play Dota" buttons are missing? You may find yourself stuck with just a "Back To Lobby" button, which vanishes and reappears when you click on an empty area. This cycle continues, leaving you with no other options, and even attempting to use Shift-Tab on your Macbook only brings up the "exit game" option, which fails to work as expected.
If you’re among those who have experienced this, chances are you've searched online for a solution. Many users suggest enabling the console in Dota 2 and entering commands such as force_leave_game_button or disconnect. Unfortunately, these suggestions didn't resolve my issue. I faced this problem consistently for two consecutive days and managed to find two different solutions.
This bug typically arises when you are in a party with friends and trying to find matches. When the "Confirming Match" process takes too long, the button disappears, leaving only the elusive "Back To Lobby" button.
Section 1.1: Solution 1 for MacOS Users
- Navigate to "Settings" on your Mac.
- Select "Wi-Fi" and find the "Details" button next to your connected Wi-Fi network.
- Click the "Details" button, and a new window will pop up showing your Wi-Fi settings.
- Go to the "TCP/IP" section and click on "Renew DHCP Lease."
- You will receive a prompt warning that renewing the lease may cause unsaved changes to be lost. Click "Apply."
- Confirm by pressing "OK" at the bottom of the mini-window.
- Optionally, return to the "Wi-Fi" settings and disconnect from your network, then reconnect.
- If Steam or Dota 2 is still running, quit both applications (you’ll see "Shutting down Steam" when you select "Quit Steam").
- Restart Steam and launch Dota 2 again. You should now see the "Play Dota" button. Clicking it should reveal the "Find Match" button too.
Subsection 1.1.1: Solution 2 for All Users
Regardless of your operating system, try restarting your router and give it some time. Initially, this method took several hours to take effect for me. Even after resetting my router, I was still stuck with the "Back To Lobby" issue. When other players invited me to join their party, they couldn’t start matchmaking because it showed that I was still in a game (which I wasn’t, as I was stuck due to this bug).
I hope this guide proves useful!
