What is it about perseverance that places it alongside virtues like Love, Grace, Faith, Hope, Joy, and Forgiveness as a Divine Power? When I first learned about these concepts more than a decade ago, I was taken aback by the inclusion of perseverance as the final element. Initially, I associated perseverance with mere stubbornness, a trait that didn’t seem commendable. However, with time, I came to appreciate and even embrace it because:
Perseverance is the driving force behind achievement.
The adage “nothing worth having comes easy” serves as a testament to the immense power and advantages of perseverance.
With perseverance, anything is achievable, while little can be accomplished without it. Just ask anyone who has realized their aspirations.
Embracing Positive Change
Creating positive change requires perseverance. In contrast, negativity, destruction, and criticism are easy; they demand little more than a self-satisfied ego and minimal effort, often devoid of education. In contrast, noble pursuits and achievements necessitate unwavering perseverance.
The image above captures my eldest daughter immersed in her passion. She dedicates her resources and energy to this pursuit, demonstrating relentless effort and resolve. As a result, she has become an accredited equestrian eventer, steadily advancing in her discipline. Her journey embodies perseverance; despite numerous setbacks, including injuries and challenges while training various horses—one of which she saved from a racetrack—she continues to thrive. Balancing three jobs to finance her passion exemplifies the power of Passionate Perseverance!
Ingredients for Success
Perseverance has the potential to overcome significant obstacles, but it requires several essential components:
- A clear vision of the objective
- Confidence in its attainability
- Determination to achieve the goal
- Commitment and passion for the journey
- Hard work and more hard work
- Faith that everything will come together
- An unwavering refusal to accept failure
The outcomes of perseverance can be remarkable. Just look around; without it, progress—whether in nature or society—would be limited. It truly is the driving force behind change.
So, the next time you face a setback, take a moment to acknowledge it, learn from the experience, and rise again, knowing each step brings you closer to your personal definition of success.
A Final Reflection
Perseverance works synergistically with the other six Divine Powers, enhancing them—up to a point. Like water, it can carve through stone, but if unchecked, it has the potential to inundate everything in its path. Therefore, while it is a powerful tool, it should be wielded judiciously.
