The Power of Words: Simplifying Communication and Understanding

Chapter 1: The Intricacies of Language
Words can often be misleading, as expressed in a blackboard note seemingly taken in France, which suggests that we should be wary of language. However, I consider words to be my preferred tool for simplification. This notion might perplex you, especially if you encounter statements like "we must distrust words." It leads me to ponder the mindset of the individual who penned such thoughts—I'm thankful I'm not in their shoes.
To assert that words are untrustworthy implies that the writer believes those words possess some form of agency. If you buy into the idea that words can have such characteristics, you're likely to accept anything written on a wall, found in a book, broadcast on the news, or shared online—essentially, any word at all.
As Charles Bukowski once remarked, "The problem with the world is that the intelligent people are full of doubts, while the stupid ones are full of confidence." Similarly, Albert Einstein stated, "The difference between stupidity and genius is that genius has its limits."
You don't need to be a renowned author or a Nobel Prize-winning physicist to recognize that words do not possess agency; rather, it's the users of words—like you and me—who have the ability to trust or question them. In this context, I wholeheartedly agree with Patrick Rothfuss's sentiment: "Using words to talk of words is like using a pencil to draw a picture of itself, on itself." Ludwig Wittgenstein adds, "What a word means, a sentence cannot say."
When you invest the effort to comprehend words rather than foolishly doubting them, they transform from being merely my favorite simplification tool to becoming yours as well.
Are you prepared to make that investment?
Alternatively, if you consider education to be costly, remember that the price of ignorance is even steeper. And I assure you, that's a promise.
Did I mention that the terms 'simple' and 'simplification' are also words?
