Letting Go of Expectations: The Path to True Happiness
Written on
Chapter 1: The Burden of Expectations
When someone fails to meet our expectations, we often feel shattered internally. This disappointment can stem from a deep emotional connection we have with that person.
Our feelings are intricately tied to our relationships, which is where expectations often arise. Have you noticed that we typically hold expectations for those we are close to, but not for strangers?
For instance, there was a time when I assisted a friend during a tough moment. However, when I found myself in need, I expected him to return the favor, but he didn’t. This led to a profound sense of betrayal, causing sleepless nights filled with questions: Why didn’t he help me? Did I not matter to him?
This realization can be painful—either we are insignificant to them, or they take our support for granted. Whether it’s in family, friendships, or professional relationships, unmet expectations often lead to personal suffering.
Section 1.1: Expectations in Writing
As an avid reader, I consume 20 to 30 articles daily, often applauding and commenting on them. Yet, I’ve noticed my own articles receive claps and comments, but not genuine reads. This discrepancy stung, as it seemed people were more interested in quick connections than meaningful engagement.
Consider this: are you contributing positively by merely clicking "clap" without truly engaging? It only takes 30 seconds to read a few lines, yet many opt for shortcuts. Each read matters significantly to a writer, as it fosters motivation and improves their craft.
Writing an article often requires considerable thought and time. Imagine pouring two hours into a piece only to find it ignored. Such experiences can severely impact a writer's confidence.
Subsection 1.1.1: My New Perspective
In light of these challenges, I’ve resolved to prioritize the quality of my writing. Perhaps my articles were lacking something that discouraged readers. I began to question why I expected others to read my work when I read theirs.
This introspection changed my outlook. I decided to continue enjoying reading quality articles and enhancing my writing skills for my own satisfaction, regardless of others' opinions. I refuse to beg for readership; if my work holds value, it will naturally attract attention.
Thank you for taking the time to read this. I welcome your insights and constructive feedback.
