# Innovative PCB Business Card Design: A Creative Journey
Written on
Chapter 1: The Concept of a PCB Business Card
While experimenting with PCB layers, I stumbled upon the idea of creating a PCB business card. This endeavor sparked an excitement in me that I hadn't felt before regarding the acquisition of PCB boards.
The design showcases both the front and back of the PCB, highlighting the unique characteristics of this innovative card.
Section 1.1: Aesthetic Choices in Design
Incorporating a SIM card pad was a design choice aimed at enhancing visual appeal, mimicking the look of debit and credit cards. However, please note that it won't function in ATMs or payment terminals.
Section 1.2: Integrating Technology with a QR Code
Instead of simply printing my website on the silkscreen layer, I opted for a QR code. Scanning this code directs users to my site, offering a modern touch. In future iterations, I intend to employ a copper layer to create the QR code and will enhance its definition by adding a top solder mask layer beneath.
Subsection 1.2.1: Printing Techniques
I plan to replace the top silkscreen layer with copper for improved definition, which will lend a silver appearance to the text, similar to my email address. I will also explore various font styles for added flair.
Section 1.3: A Personal Touch with Nairobi Outline
One of my favorite features of the card is the outline of Nairobi. During upcoming revisions, I plan to eliminate the copper trace that intersects this design for a cleaner look.
Chapter 2: Enhancing Functionality with NFC
Incorporating NFC technology adds an extra layer of functionality. If your phone supports NFC, you can tap the card to be taken directly to my website. However, not all business cards currently include this feature.
Looking ahead, I plan to use Electro-less Nickel / Immersion Gold (ENIG) surface finish for its flat surface and RoHS compliance. This finish not only offers a longer shelf life but also enhances the overall appearance. Additionally, I will reduce the copper thickness to about 0.8mm, keeping in mind that JLCPCB maintains a white silkscreen on a black PCB.
I am excited to announce that I will be attending PyConKE22 on May 6th and 7th, 2022, where I will distribute these unique boards. I hope my friends will appreciate this small piece of my creativity.
In the words of Rodney Osodo, "While I may not have all the answers about life, I certainly have a passion for Printed Circuit Boards."
