Finding Happiness by Embracing My True Self

Chapter 1: The Struggles of Comparison
For an extended period, I avoided social media. The constant stream of weddings, vacations, adorable pets, and newborns on my feed was overwhelming.
I felt envious. Everyone appeared so joyful, while I was desperately seeking that same feeling. Paradoxically, I had no substantial reason to feel discontent. My children were thriving, we had moved to a wonderful neighborhood, and my relationship was flourishing. Moreover, I had secured a position in IT shortly after graduating with my degree in information technology.
Despite everything in my life unfolding as I had envisioned, I found myself grappling with unhappiness. It wasn't until a moment of deep self-reflection that I understood what I had been overlooking.
One day, while jotting down my gratitudes (a practice I maintain to uplift my spirits), I realized that I hadn't acknowledged anything about myself.
I expressed gratitude for having a lovely day, preparing a delicious meal, and my children’s good behavior, but I neglected to include anything related to my personal achievements.
I didn’t recognize my own joy at being in a positive mood throughout the day, my excitement for taking on new responsibilities at work, or the pride I felt for consistently going to the gym.
This oversight highlighted a deeper issue: I was not at peace with myself. I had tucked away my past and avoided confronting it. It was only when I decided to face those buried experiences that I rediscovered my happiness.
I came to understand that my past has shaped the person I am today. It embodies my resilience, strength, and determination. When I reflect on my journey, I now see a new woman in the mirror.
Letting go of pain, disappointment, and the mistakes I made was crucial. Accepting my humanity allowed me to embrace myself fully, and since that realization, I have found joy within.
