Chapter 1: A Glimpse into the Past

While going through my daily skincare routine, I found myself reminiscing about the products I used during my teens and twenties. It's amusing to think that I would never consider applying those same items on my skin today.

Today's youth, whatever label we assign to them, have entered a world teeming with technological advancements that my generation could scarcely have envisioned at their age. Although I appreciate technology, I’m grateful that I didn’t have to navigate life with smartphones and social media during my formative years.

They engage in discussions about topics we often kept private or entirely avoided. While I admire their openness and awareness, I can't help but feel uneasy about some of the personal products advertised across various media platforms. A little modesty and discretion can be valuable.

Moreover, I observe a worrying trend of diminishing personal accountability among them. Many young people seem to escape the consequences of their actions. Reflecting on my own past, I acknowledge that I made my share of poor choices, but I faced the repercussions head-on because I had to.

The current generation is inundated with information, making it challenging to distinguish between truth and falsehood. Although I’ve relied on the internet for research for years, I’m thankful that I was taught to seek out information using card catalogs.

As I ponder my grandparents' experiences, I can't help but wonder what kind of world awaits my grandchildren when they reach my age. If they were to write an essay similar to this one, what insights would they share?
